Department of English
“Creating Globizens in an English Speaking World.”
In the 21st Century the world has shrunk to become a global village. Borders have ceased to act as barriers, and people all over the world have developed a global world view. In the global market place, English as the ‘lingua Franca’ is the passport to a better life through greater job opportunities. The mission and vision of the department is to create true ‘Globizens’, who are comfortable anywhere in the world due to their proficiency in English.
Faculty Profile – adequacy and competency of facultyThe Department of English has a six member faculty of highly experienced teachers, with teaching experience ranging from 20 years to 14 years under the belt. The faculty is highly qualified with one doctorate degree holder and one member engaged in advanced PhD research. Four faculty members possess the prestigious PGDTE (post graduate diploma in the teaching of English) from EFLU (English and Foreign Languages University). The overall percentage of students who clear the English examinations year after year has always been with 95%+ which is proof of more than adequately successful teaching strategies used by the English faculty in the classroom.
The profile of the students studying English is diverse. We get students from English medium schools with CBSE/ICSE syllabus and other English medium schools offering TS State Syllabus (SSC). Their entry level proficiency level in English is adequate. A large number of students come from the regional language background mainly Telugu. A large number of them are from the rural areas. Their entry level proficiency is below that of the students from an English medium background. A vast majority of students are from the disadvantaged sections of society drawing Government scholarships. The English department uses the appropriate strategies like the Audio-Lingual Method (ALM),Communicative Language Teaching(CLT) Immersion Method(IM) and other eclectic Approaches to strengthen the language skills of the Telugu medium students to put them on par with English medium students. The department is also offering special coaching to students of other countries mainly from Francophone countries of Africa..The department has strategizing and brainstorming sessions to fine tune teaching techniques every year, using ICT platforms available on the World Wide Web.
This college is affiliated to Osmania University and follows common core syllabus prescribed by TSCHE (Telengana State Centre for Higher Education)for all UG English courses affiliated to state universities. The Department has been successfully conducting Soft Skills for I & II years and Campus Training classes for final year students for the past five years. The college has an independent placement office headed by a placement officer. The department trains the students in soft-skills and interview skills and sends them to the placement officer for helping in finding suitable placements.
